
What's happening? (Late summer/early autumn 2007 in Portland, Oregon)
The late summer and early autumn are a wonderful time to enjoy African music at various events in the greater Portland area! Here are just some of the highlights:
August 1 Hugh Masekela with his South African Big Band is playing at the Oregon Zoo/Wells Fargo World Concerts Series, beginning at 7pm.
August 11 Loveness Wesa & Kgotso African Cultural Arts
(music & dance of Zimbabwe) play at Washington Park in SW Portland as part of Portland Parks and Recreation Summer Concerts Series. FREE, Ampitheater Stage, 6pm.
August 10 Malawi-centric dinner! This is a get-together (not a benefit) for people who currently reside in Portland, but who have lived and/or worked in Malawi at some time. August 18 Chata Addy & Susumas play at the AFRICAN CELEBRATION at ALBERTA PARK.
August 25 Chata Addy & Susumas play at the Hollywood Farmers Market from 9am to 12 noon.
September 15 Chata Addy & Susumas play at the Nob Hill St. Fair in NW Portland from 6pm to 8pm. (Chata's drumming workshop for kids from 5pm to 5:45 pm)
Every Thursday - Africa on Fire! Radio Show featuring international and local African news on Portland's KBOO, 90.7fm from 6-7pm. www.kboo.org
